The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) is currently embarking on a comprehensive study to assess the viability of constructing an elevated motorway that will establish a crucial connection between Southern Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi International Airport. This ambitious project aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance transportation efficiency in the region.
With an approximate length of 19 kilometers, the proposed motorway will span from Srinakarin to Suvarnabhumi Airport. EXAT officials have confirmed that the initial phase of the feasibility study is already underway. Once completed, the study will pave the way for an extensive environmental impact assessment (EIA), which will be accompanied by public hearings to gather community feedback and address any concerns regarding the potential ramifications of the project.
In accordance with established protocols, the finalized findings from the feasibility study, EIA, and public hearings will be compiled and submitted for consideration to the Cabinet. The approval from the Cabinet is an essential step towards commencing the construction phase of this vital infrastructure project.
Authorities have estimated that the feasibility study will require approximately six months to conclude. Subsequently, an additional six months will be allocated for the completion of the environmental impact assessment and the vital public hearings. Therefore, if all goes according to plan, the entire process is expected to be finalized by the year 2024.
Financial considerations play a crucial role in the realization of this ambitious motorway project. The estimated cost of the proposed infrastructure amounts to approximately 21.89 billion baht. In order to secure the necessary funding, EXAT is currently in the process of finalizing an investment model. This model aims to attract private investment through a public-private partnership, which would allow for the successful execution of the project while ensuring sustainable long-term management and maintenance.
By establishing a direct link between Southern Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi International Airport, this elevated motorway project holds immense potential to alleviate traffic woes and significantly improve commuting experiences for residents and travelers alike. The anticipated completion of the feasibility study in 2024 marks an important milestone in this transformative endeavor, which will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the region’s transportation infrastructure.
