Thailand and Cambodia’s presidents have expressed pride in their countries’ longstanding friendship and cooperation. Further collaboration on logistics and reducing international phone scams were also mentioned as areas of interest.
General Prayut Chan-o-cha, prime minister of Thailand, met with Cambodia’s Hun Sen during the ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Phnom Penh.
This was their first chance to encounter each other since the COVID epidemic began.
As Cambodia holds the ASEAN chair this year, Thailand’s prime minister extended his congratulations and gratitude to his Cambodian counterpart for making the trip to Bangkok for APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.
Gen. Prayut used this opportunity to thank Hun Sen for his attention and support in preserving the already strong bilateral relations between the two countries and to convey his willingness to further deepen those relationships in all conceivable ways.
The prime minister of Thailand urged that his country and Cambodia work together to strengthen their financial and digital sector ties and increase transportation links to regional neighbors.
General Prayut lauded Cambodia for its swift action in the face of COVID-19, its contributions to the region’s social and economic recovery, and its efforts to promote peace, stability, and prosperity.
He expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government for its assistance in catching scam callers, which freed many Thai people who had been coerced into working as phone scammers in the country. The Thai prime minister has stated that his country is ready to provide its help and cooperate with other countries in an effort to solve this problem on a global scale.
