Thailand is moving forward with plans to promote gender diversity and help women reach their full potential as leaders, recognizing that women play a critical role in economic and social development.
During the opening ceremony of the Global Gender Summit 2022 (GSW), which is being held this week in Bangkok, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha pledged to make this issue a priority.
The GSW is billed as a major economic event for women leaders worldwide. Approximately 650 women representatives from 52 countries attended.
In his address, Prime Minister Prayut said the event provides an excellent opportunity for all of Thailand to benefit from the experience of women leaders from around the world and to support efforts to foster an environment in which women can achieve their full development.
According to the Prime Minister, funds have been made available for career development, skill building and identifying new opportunities for women’s projects.
The Prime Minister also spoke of the measures taken by the administration to enhance the role of women, especially those living in the far south, as vectors of economic development and actors of peace in their communities.
In conclusion, Gen. Prayut said the government is also considering a number of programs to encourage women’s participation in the economic and business sectors, both regionally and internationally, and to ensure their rights to equal access to services and digital age skills development.
