BANGKOK, Thailand — June 27, 2025 – A serious two-vehicle collision occurred early Thursday morning on the Chalong Rat Expressway in Bangkok, after a Land Rover traveling against the flow of traffic collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz, resulting in severe injuries to both drivers and extensive vehicle damage.
According to Expressway Police Station 1, the crash took place around 6:00 a.m. near the Chatu Chot exit in the Sai Mai District. Authorities responded swiftly to the scene, including expressway police, Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue personnel, and disaster prevention officers from Sai Mai District.
At the scene, responders discovered a gray Mercedes-Benz A250 overturned with significant damage to its front end. The 22-year-old male driver, identified only as Mr. Saksit, was found trapped inside the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. A short distance away, a white Land Rover was also found overturned with its wheels up and its front heavily damaged. The 26-year-old female driver, Ms. Rinnaphat, was reported to have sustained a fractured leg and facial injuries.
Preliminary reports suggest that the Land Rover had entered the expressway traveling in the wrong direction at high speed. The Mercedes-Benz, which was heading in the correct direction, had no time to avoid the collision. The force of the impact flipped the Mercedes onto its roof and left both drivers in critical condition.
Both victims were transported to separate hospitals — Saimai Hospital and Synphaet Ramintra Hospital — for emergency medical treatment. Neither vehicle was carrying passengers at the time of the crash.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the expressway and plan to interview both drivers once their conditions stabilize. The incident has prompted renewed concerns about expressway entry-point safety and wrong-way driving enforcement.
