AYUTTHAYA, Thailand – June 22, 2025 — A 54-year-old Dutch national was discovered dead in his hotel room in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya on Sunday, the day he was scheduled to check out following a three-night stay.
Hotel staff found the man, identified only as Ronald, unresponsive after he failed to check out as expected. A member of the housekeeping team entered the room using a master key and alerted emergency services upon discovering the body.
Police officers from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Station, forensic investigators, medical personnel from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital, and a local rescue foundation responded to the scene. The man was found shirtless, wearing black shorts, lying on the floor next to the bed. Authorities reported a deep laceration on his left arm, with significant blood stains visible on the floor, the bed, and in the bathroom area.
Items found in the room included a fruit knife approximately 10 centimeters in length in the drained bathtub, the man’s mobile phone on the tub’s edge, a passport, several medications, a yellow powder, and an English-language letter on the dressing table. A partially consumed bottle of alcohol and soft drinks were also located nearby.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the man may have injured himself while under emotional distress after drinking alcohol. Investigators noted that closed-circuit footage showed no sign of anyone entering or exiting the room during the period in question.
The body was transferred to the Forensic Science Institute in Pathum Thani for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Officials from the Dutch embassy have been notified. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, with a focus on verifying the contents of the letter and the man’s activities leading up to his death.
