Digital Wallet Plan for Thai Youth Set for Mid-2025 Launch

Thailand’s Ministry of Finance is moving ahead with its digital wallet initiative aimed at citizens aged 16 to 20, with implementation expected by the end of the second quarter of 2025. The program, which will provide a 10,000-baht digital payment to eligible participants, is designed to stimulate local economies and promote digital financial adoption.

The government is currently in the final stages of internal assessment, with proposals for the third and fourth phases of the initiative scheduled to be submitted to the Cabinet within the coming weeks. Although the final list of beneficiaries awaits Cabinet confirmation, officials anticipate the number of recipients will remain under 3 million.

Digital disbursement will take place through a secure platform, with no changes expected to the original design or timeline. According to the Ministry of Finance, phase four of the initiative is on track for a September 2025 rollout, and funding has already been allocated to ensure smooth implementation.

The program is part of a broader strategy to support youth engagement in the digital economy and drive spending at the community level. Authorities emphasize that transparency and security remain priorities throughout the rollout.

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat reiterated the government’s commitment to the program, noting that once Cabinet approval is granted, the distribution process will proceed without delay.
