Fire Destroys Over 300 Impounded Vehicles at Mae Sot Customs Lot

A fire broke out at a bonded warehouse in Mae Sot district, Tak province, on the evening of March 18, 2025, damaging more than 300 impounded vehicles. The blaze, which started around 7 p.m., spread rapidly through the outdoor parking area behind the new customs office, currently under construction near the Second Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge. Several explosions were reported during the incident.

Firefighters from multiple municipalities, along with the Ratchamanu Task Force, worked for about two hours to bring the fire under control. Authorities have launched an investigation, with forensic officers from Tak province set to examine the site to determine the cause.

According to customs officials, the affected vehicles were imported from Japan for re-export to Myanmar. However, ongoing conflict between the Myanmar government and rebel groups had delayed the process, leaving the cars stored in the warehouse for several years. Previous attempts to auction them were unsuccessful due to high reserve prices.
