UTN Party Deputy Leader Expresses Gratitude to Supporters, Pledges to Follow Election Winners in Government Formation
Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the deputy leader of the United Thai Nation (UTN) Party, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the party’s supporters for their unwavering support in the recent election. In a press conference held at Government House, he expressed gratitude for every vote garnered by the party and its candidates, with a special emphasis on the overwhelming backing received from UTN supporters in his hometown of Nakhon Si Thammarat.
While acknowledging the outcome of the election, Thanakorn emphasized that defeat is an inherent part of the democratic process and extended his congratulations to the parties that secured a greater number of votes than UTN. In a display of unity and respect for the electorate’s decision, he affirmed that the UTN Party would follow the lead of the election winners in the formation of the next government.
Thanakorn disclosed that the UTN’s leadership recently convened to discuss the election results and their implications. He revealed that General Prayut Chan-o-cha, the incumbent Prime Minister, had advised him to allow the election winners to take the reins in government formation. Furthermore, General Prayut urged Thanakorn to ensure the smooth functioning of the caretaker government during the remaining three months before the new government’s inauguration.
When queried about the potential for forming a minority government, Thanakorn expressed uncertainty about such a scenario and indicated his preparedness to assume a position in the opposition. He displayed a pragmatic approach, prioritizing the stability and efficiency of the government over pursuing power in a minority capacity.
In addition, Thanakorn commended General Prayut’s “eight-year quest for the country,” describing it as a significant contribution towards establishing a lasting legacy. He lauded General Prayut’s untarnished political record throughout his tenure, emphasizing that his commitment to integrity and the absence of corruption would be sufficient for him to be fondly remembered by the people.
