NT to Lead Underground Cable Installation in Bangkok

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), and National Telecom (NT) have agreed to use NT’s underground cable conduits to boost government efforts to transfer telecom cables underground and improve the capital’s surroundings.

The first step, according to BMA officials, would be to relocate telecom wires through NT’s subterranean conduits on Yaowarat Road beginning in February. The BMA, which has responsibility over all of Bangkok’s pavements, has also consented to enable NT to erect risers to link subterranean conduits to buildings, as well as fiber-optic patch panels.

The resolution compels telecom and media providers to transfer their wires underground and pay NT a leasing charge.

According to Sutisak Tantayotin, Deputy Secretary-General of the NBTC, NT is anticipated to help with the work because the business has subterranean conduits covering more than 3,000 kilometers in Bangkok. He also stated that using NT’s conduits will hasten the undergrounding of overhead wires and lower the NBTC’s subsidy for the building expenses of new conduits.
