RANONG — A 65-year-old Italian tourist was found dead beneath a bridge in Ranong province on the evening of March 12. Authorities suspect he fell from a height of approximately two meters.
The discovery was made by a local resident near the National Telecommunications Company office in Khao Niwet Subdistrict, about 100 meters from the 2025 Annual Ranong Hot Spring Tourism Festival. The resident, while looking down from the Klong Rahat bridge, spotted the man lying face down on the embankment wall and immediately alerted authorities.
Ranong City Police responded to the call at 6:00 p.m. and launched an investigation. Initial forensic reports indicated that the man, identified as Mr. Marco, had died between 8 to 10 hours before his body was found. No signs of physical assault were detected.
Witnesses provided accounts suggesting the man may have been disoriented before the incident. A motorcycle taxi driver reported seeing a foreign man walking unsteadily near the festival entrance the previous night. Nearby residents also recalled hearing dogs barking intensely after midnight.
Authorities believe the tourist may have lost his balance while stepping over a water pipe at the bridge, a spot frequently used for urination. Investigators suspect he fell, hit his head on a hard surface, and succumbed to his injuries.
Police have launched a review of CCTV footage and are working to contact the Italian Embassy to inform the deceased’s relatives. Senior police officials, including Ranong Provincial Police Commander Major General Thanawat Wattanakul, visited the scene to oversee the investigation.
