A recently renovated concrete walkway along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Bangkok collapsed on Sunday while pedestrians were using it, prompting widespread criticism of authorities. No injuries were reported.
Surveillance footage, shared by the Drama Addict Facebook page on Monday, captured the moment a man and a woman fell into a hole when concrete blocks beneath them suddenly gave way in Phayathai district. The walkway, completed about a month ago by the Department of Highways, appeared to fail unexpectedly, raising concerns about construction quality and safety.
The social media post quickly gained traction, with many users questioning accountability and expressing fears over potential injuries. Some commenters speculated about legal action, while others pointed out the dangers such an incident could pose to children and the elderly.
Following the public outcry, officials from Phayathai district office inspected the site on Monday. The damaged section measured approximately 2.5 meters wide, 3 meters long, and 1 meter deep, according to the office’s statement. The area was cordoned off for repairs to ensure pedestrian safety.
