Thailand has secured the 32nd position among the top 145 tourist destinations for Muslim travelers and ranks 5th among non-OIC nations in the Mastercard-Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2024. This ranking remains unchanged from 2023.
With a commitment to establish Thailand as a hub for all aspects of halal, the Thai government continues to promote the broad development of the halal economy, encompassing cuisine, travel, fashion, and soft power initiatives.
Related agencies have been urged to strategize on enhancing the halal industry’s growth, boosting tourism to attract Muslim travelers, and strengthening Thailand’s standing in this burgeoning market to fully capitalize on national potential.
The Muslim tourism sector is expected to experience rapid growth, with approximately 168 million international Muslim travelers—marking a 5% increase from pre-COVID-19 levels.
