Prime Minister Urges Thai Athletes to Excel at 2024 Paris Olympics

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has rallied Thai athletes to deliver their best performances at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, promising increased government support for national sports. Speaking at a gathering with athletes and officials at Government House, he assured more funding and enhanced post-career support for the athletes.

The Thai delegation to the Paris Olympics will comprise 51 athletes across 17 sports, marking the largest contingent from Southeast Asia. This diverse group includes competitors in badminton and boxing, with the badminton team being the largest, consisting of nine players, followed by eight boxers.

Prime Minister Srettha commended the athletes for their dedication and rigorous preparation, recognizing these efforts as a source of national pride. He emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, respect for opponents, and the role of sports in promoting international goodwill and boosting Thailand’s global image.

In a notable moment, the Prime Minister interacted with 12-year-old skateboarder Vareeraya Sukasem, who is set to be the youngest Olympian in Thailand’s history. The 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled from July 26 to August 11, with Thai athletes participating in a wide array of sports, including athletics, cycling, and golf.

During the meeting, officials highlighted the comprehensive support system being put in place to ensure that athletes are well-prepared and motivated to excel. The focus is on creating an environment where athletes can achieve their personal bests, contributing to Thailand’s sporting success on the global stage.
