On July 5, 2024, InterNations released its annual report, naming Thailand the sixth-best country for expatriates worldwide. The report, based on a survey conducted in February, gathered responses from over 12,500 expatriates and assessed 53 countries on various indices such as quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, personal finance, and essential services including housing, administration, language, and digital life.

Panama topped the rankings as the premier destination for expatriates, with 82% of respondents expressing high satisfaction due to financial benefits, retirement prospects, and an improved quality of life. Mexico and Indonesia secured the second and third spots, respectively. Indonesia’s rise from 13th place last year was attributed to its low living costs, friendly locals, and balanced work-life environment.

Spain, Colombia, and Thailand rounded out the top six. Meanwhile, the bottom ten countries in the ranking include Kuwait, which placed last, followed by Turkiye, Finland, Germany, Canada, Norway, Italy, Malta, Ireland, and the UK. These countries face various challenges that negatively impact the expatriate experience.

The InterNations report provides a detailed analysis of expatriate life across the globe, highlighting the factors that contribute to their happiness and overall experience living abroad.

The survey data and analysis were conducted by InterNations, a global network that connects expatriates and provides insights into their experiences around the world.
