Chinese EVs Shine at Bangkok International Motor Show

At the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers made a significant impact with their innovative designs, quality, and competitive pricing. The event, running from March 27 to April 7, featured 49 major automotive brands and launched over 20 new models, highlighting the increasing influence of Chinese EVs in the Thai market.

Among the new entrants, Geely’s Zeekr and Xpeng stood out by unveiling their latest EV models, reflecting the rising trend and acceptance of EVs in Thailand. This surge aligns with Thailand’s strategic goal to become a leading EV production hub in Southeast Asia, aiming for EVs to constitute 30 percent of its total vehicle production by 2030.

The Motor Show served as a platform for automotive companies to exhibit their newest EV offerings, emphasizing the growing market share of Chinese EVs in Thailand. These brands accounted for more than 80 percent of the country’s new battery electric vehicle registrations in the previous year, underlining their dominance and increasing popularity.

The event’s success and the notable presence of Chinese EV manufacturers underscore Thailand’s advancing role in the ASEAN EV industry. This development is anticipated to stimulate the local job market, enhance the supply chain, and affirm Thailand’s strategic position in the regional EV landscape.

High-ranking officials and key stakeholders in the automotive and EV sectors attended the event, acknowledging the pivotal role of such international exhibitions in promoting technological exchange and fostering economic growth within the region.
